I’ve wanted to put together a blog for quite a while, but I didn’t want it to just be one of the default WordPress themes, or look like every other blog out there. At work, we’ve been leveraging AI more and more to create designs and build sites. Things are now at the point where I can put together this blog’s design (which I’m quite happy with) and build out the blog in a few hours.
It’s also the culmination of other side projects I have been building with AI over the past couple of months. For years I used the Bodyspace app by bodybuilding.com to log my workouts, which was good, but would lose my data every now and then, and didn’t work quite how I wanted. I then used Google Sheets to log for a few months, but the experience on mobile was terrible Finally, I used AI to create lift.joeykorbel.com and build out a workout logging experience exactly as I wanted it to be.
I made cellars.joeykorbel.com to have curated whiskey tastings and to store different drinks and bottles I’ve tried, and to rate whiskey I’ve had.
I plan on making a subdomain to help my cleaning service manage my Airbnb rentals, and another for playing card and board games with friends via phones. Basically, all the apps I might otherwise pay for, I’m creating my own customized version of.
I want to own my data and my experiences, and not give it to Meta, or other shady companies for free. I want to a place to share my projects, and when I go on sabbatical next year, I plan on documenting my trip here for my family and friends to follow.
This will be a place I can send friends for book recommendations, or open myself to find my favorite recipes. It’s a place where I can expand my digital presence, while also attempting Digital Minimalism, and pulling out of places that do their best to suck me in.
